Got my phone upgraded this week to a shiny new Sony Ericsson K700i. I did have the T610 before which I was very happy with, so I’m comparing the new one to that.
The screen is so much clearer & the camera is a lot better with a light on it too, which I really like (also very handy for looking around in the dark). I can now also record movies (with sound) & take panoramic photos, with the new fancy little feature.
It’s pretty much the same size, but it doesn’t look as good as the T610 (which I think was very nicely designed) feels a lot tackier. However it is lighter, which is good.
I’m happy I now have a build in FM band radio & also an MP3 player – which will be handy for any tube journey home after a night out. It’s stated to have 32MB of memory, although it’s actually more like 42. So I can maybe squeeze an album on there if I rip it at 80kbps & can be bothered to Bluetooth it in.
At last, Ericsson have improved the speed of the interface. No more typing of SMS & waiting for the screen to catch up. This is also noticed through-out the menus. Deleting items & changing themes is greatly speeded up. They also reduced the amount of key presses required to send an SMS once typed, which was so long winded on the T610.
The quick mute key is still there. The shortcut for mute, Bluetooth & infrared is found by pressing “C” in standby instead of the right selection key. There are some useful shortcuts for the camera too.
The large clock is harder to find though. Not mentioned in the manual at all, it’s found by changing the light to automatic, under Settings > Display. You can light up the clock by pressing + or – once it appears – which is very handy indeed.
One thing they have lost though is the “Reply & Delete” function.
Would be better if it wasn’t branded by Vodafone, but all in all though, I’m happy with my new toy.
