So I’ve just started to see the adverts on TV. Chip & PIN is making it’s way into the UK.
At the point of sale we simply tap in our 4 digit code for authentication. Great! Seldom does a shop assistant say “sorry, you’re signature does not match that on the card” & that’s even if they’ve bothered to look (I don’t think petrol station attendants even know what a signature is).

Somebody said to me that a mugger could just watch you type in your PIN, steal your card & use it. True, but they can do that now anyway & take your money from a cash point.

What I’m worried about is, are places like Sainsbury’s still going to make me put that STUPID initial on my cash-back (something that’s never been explained to me).

About time seeing as New Zealand, Australia & a great deal of Europe have been doing it for years. Apparently there are more than eight million in use today, but I have yet to witness this in any shops in London.

Come on bank, send me my new card!

  1. I love Chip and PIN. Them and that fat mouse with the moustache and flying helmet. Best Rescue Rangers that animation ever gave us…

Only joking…it also eliminates that annoying situation that the supermarkets know about where a pen simply won’t work if you lean your credit card slip on that plastic platform. Many’s the time I’ve engraved my name on a slip rather than inked it…and I’m sure there must be something illegal in doing that…

  2. Bloody hell! You brits (!) are still using that archaic system. You should come over here and see what wonders the world of technology can offer. These kiwis are quite clued up y’know. In fact, there’s a rumour going round they invented the word ‘ingenuity’.

It’s also got lots of lovely people, some of them british so you won’t get homesick at all….honest….blah blah blah
